A team of researchers from NVIDIA launched Dreamdojo, A new AI model that teaches robots how to interact with the physical world by watching 44000 hours of human video, making it one of the largest and most varied datasets ever used for teaching robots.

What is Dreamdojo?

Dreamdojo is not a physical robot; it is a foundational model designed to give robots a deep understanding of the world they operate in. In AI, the “world model simulates or produces how things behave like how action affects the environment or how things move. These kinds of actions help understand robots more intelligently instead of just reacting blindly.

DreamDojo first learns from video of human behaviour, like how we reach, grasp, move, or manipulate things, and then transfers that knowledge to robots. This dramatically reduces the need for collecting robot-specific data.

Dreamdojo’s two-phase training Model

Phase 1: Pre-Training With Human Videos

The model watches a huge collection of human videos. From this data dreamdojo learns physical rules & patterns about the world like how the world works, object moves, how people interact with them & what the outcomes are, etc.

Phase 2: Post-Training for Robots

Once a model has general knowledge about the world, it is fine-tuned for a specific robot.This allows the model to turn what it learned from human video into robot-specific movement and control.

This two-step approach means robots first learn physics and object interaction in theory, and then learn how to apply it concretely to their own bodies, similar to how humans learn general knowledge first, then learn to perform tasks themselves.
